The abstracts will be presented as oral or poster (printed or electronic poster) presentations in the 32nd Turkish National Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery Congress Scientific Programme. Abstracts to be submitted from Turkey should be prepared and presented in Turkish. Abstracts to be submitted should be prepared and presented in English.
The preference about the presentation type (oral, printed poster or electronic poster) and the sub-field of Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery to which the study is related should be indicated by the authors when submitting the abstract. However, the “Congress Abstracts Committee” reserve the right to accept or reject the abstract or change the presentation type when accepted, depending on the content of the study and the number of submitted abstracts. Case presentations WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED as oral presentations.
The below mentioned details will be required for the acceptance of abstracts :
- The study should NOT BE PUBLISHED AND/OR PRESENTED anywhere else previously.
- The abstract should not exceed 400 words.
- The abstract title should consist of 10 words at most and reflect the exact content of the study.
- Name, surname, academic title, institution and city of the abstract authors should be indicated together with the abstract title. However , any kind of information regarding these institutions or authors should not be mentioned in the abstract body.
- The presenting author should be clearly specified. In general the senior residents or new specialists (less than 5 years) who are the first authors of their abstracts are expected to present their abstracts. It is also preferred that the presenting author in oral or poster presentations are accompanied by a senior specialist and/or professor or associated professor and/or trainer who is also related with the study.
- Preference about having the abstract(s) to be included in the abstract award assessment SHOULD BE CLEARLY STATED.
- Abstracts which have any other project support or grant should be clearly stated.
Financial connections of the authors, if there is any, of the researchers should be declared.
- Abstracts (except the case presentations) should include the below mentioned parts :
- Objective
- Instruments and method
- Indications (numerical and/or statistical data)
- Result(s)
- Abstracts which are not finalized and resulted at the time of abstract submission and which do not include the above mentioned parts (except the case presentations) WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE REVIEWED.
- Tables or graphics SHOULD NOT BE INCLUDED in the abstracts.
- The field of the abstract among the below mentioned sub-fields should be clearly indicated :
- General
- Otology - Neurotology
- Rhinology - Allergy
- Head and Neck Surgery
- Laryngology - Phoniatry
- Pediatric Otolaryngology
- Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
- Sleep Disorders
- Quality Improvement - Patient Safety
- Socio-economic Issues
- Accepted abstracts can not be withdrawed after the letter of acceptance is sent. If the accepted abstracts are not presented (as poster or oral presentations), all authors of these abstracts will NOT BE ALLOWED to present in the scientific programme of the next (33rd) National Congress, unless they prove their valid excuses about not presenting their abstract(s) in the 32nd National Congress.
- Case presentations can only be accepted if it is considered that they can make a contribution to the literature and can ONLY BE PRESENTED AS POSTER PRESENTATION (as printed poster or electronic poster).
THE DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS SUBMISSION IS SEPTEMBER 1, 2010.
The abstracts can only be submitted online from the congress website (www.ulusalkbb.org) by the Online Abstract Submission System. The abstracts which will be sent via fax, e-mail or postal mail will not be accepted. The author(s) will be guided automatically by the online system during the abstract submission process. A copy of the submitted abstract should be printed and kept, for security purposes.
During the congress, the presenting authors of the oral presentations are kindly required to hand over their presentations to the slide preview room at least one day prior to their presentation date which will be specified in the scientific programme. The presentations should be prepared with Microsoft Office 2000 or a newer software. All kinds of technical equipment (slide machine, projector, computer, video, etc.) will be available in the meeting halls. Each oral presentation in the scientific programme is planned to be made in 10 minutes time which will be used as 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for discussion. While presenting this time limits CAN NOT BE EXCEEDED. Visual (picture or video) or audio materials can be used while presenting.
Poster sizes should not exceed 70 cm width and 90 cm height. The font size should be legible from a distance of 1 m. The authors of printed posters are kindly required to place their posters on the board allocated for their poster(s) on the specified date of their presentation(s) and remove afterwards by themselves. The necessary materials for hanging up the posters will be available in the posters area. On each day of the congress, a Poster Discussion Session may be programmed and and at least one author of the abstract (preferably the presenting author) is required to be ready during this session.
It is OBLIGATORY for the presenting author(s) of the abstract(s) to complete their congress registration by September 1, 2010, the deadline for abstract submission. Each author making the registration payment on time will have the right to be the presenting author of one oral, one printed poster and one electronic poster presentation at most.
CONGRESS ABSTRACTS CD
All accepted abstracts to be presented (as oral, printed or electronic posters) in the scientific programme will be included in the congress abstracts CD.
TURKISH SOCIETY OF OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY AND HEAD & NECK SURGERY BEST RESEARCH AWARD
The best 12 abstracts which have scientific research quality among the poster and oral presentations to be presented during the 32nd Turkish National Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery Congress will be awarded upon assessments of the full texts and the presentations (during oral and poster presentations) seperately.
Submitted abstracts will not be included in awards assessment automatically. Only the abstracts of the authors who specifically applied will be taken into consideration during awards assessment. Because of this reason, the authors SHOULD CLEARLY INDICATE their preference about award assessment when they are submitting their abstract(s).
The full texts of the abstracts which will be included in the awards assessment should be sent "on-line" from the congress website (www.ulusalkbb.org). The texts should be prepared with "Arial" font and 11 font size and should not exceed 5 A4 pages including the graphics, images, tables and pictures. The online system for full text submission will be available after the letters of acceptance about the abstracts and awards are sent and will be open until September 30, 2010.
The full texts of the abstracts which are chosen to be assessed for award by the ABSTRACTS COMMITTEE should have to be sent until September 30, 2010.

The abstracts will be assessed according to the below mentioned importance criterias (JADAD criteria have also been considered for the preparation of this part):
- Controlled comparative prospective clinical researches (Phase I, II, III and IV trials)
- Retrospective data-parameter controlled
- Case controlled
- Controlled comparative experimental researches
- Controlled comparative field researches
- Retrospective clinical studies / clinical experiences
- Time limited and follow-up researches
- Cross-sectional clinical researches
- Clinical researches based on follow-up (longitudinal, time limited)
- Cohort (group follow-up) research
- Meta-analyses
- Abstracts of which the presenting author is a resident or a new specialist for less than 5 years will be prioritized.
- Case presentations will not be included in the awards assessment.
- It is required to use appropriate statistical methods for the abstracts for which statistics usage is necessary.
- Original studies will be prioritized.
- The studies which are approved by the Local Ethical Board, which take project research support and which have the "informed consent" forms obtained from the test subjects, if there are any, will be prioritized during the award assessments. (This information should be indicated during application along with the project support received and/or project evaluation number.)
- Each study will be rated on a scale of 1 to 10 based on the criteria, by the members of abstracts committee.
- It is strictly required to send the full text of the abstracts in order to be have them included in the awards assessment. The full texts of the awarded studies will be published in the supplement issue of the Turkish Otolaryngology Journal (by having the approval of the authors).
- During the awards assessment; the full text and the presentation technique(s) will be considered for the oral presentations and the full text and the visual quality will be considered for the poster presentations.
- The residents who applied for award assessment and who will present his/her abstract orally will be priorily considered for the registration and accommodation support that will be provided by Turkish Otorhinolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery Society.
LETTERS OF ACCEPTANCE
All submitted abstracts will be assessed by the "Congress Abstracts Committee" and will be accepted or rejected according to this assessment. Letters of acceptance including the presentation type (oral, printed poster or electronic poster) will be sent until October 1, 2010 to the user author who had submitted the abstract. The user author will also be informed if the abstract is also being included into award assessment.
E-POSTERS
Abstracts which are accepted as poster presentations can also be presented as electronic posters as well as the printed posters. Details about the preparation of e-posters will be announced on our congress website (www.ulusalkbb.org).
In order to have an abstract to be accepted as an electronic poster, the authors are required to select “e-poster” as the presentation type while submitting the abstract which would not exceed 250 words. The full texts of e-posters will be collected after the letters of acceptance are sent.
