SKULL BASE ENDOSCOPY VERONA

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is both an honour and a pleasure to announce the convening of the First International Meeting “SKULL BASE ENDOSCOPY - VERONA” that will be held in Verona, Italy, on September 17, 2015.

The primary objective for the meeting is to bring together up-and-coming researchers to present and actively discuss up-to-date research results from the fields of endoscopic surgery of the anterior and lateral skull base. Nothing could give me more pleasure than to see the new insights obtained at this meeting applied clinically and to future research.
Fully endoscopic surgery has quickly become a surgical standard of care in minimally invasive neurosurgery of the anterior skull base and the benefits of endoscopy such as panoramic view, brilliant illumination and faster postoperative recovery have been adopted by many surgeons skilled in this type of surgery.

Endoscope use in other areas such as the lateral skull base, for example the cerebellopontine angle (CPA), however has been limited and endoscopy is only used as an adjunct to conventional microscopic surgical techniques, so called endoscope-assisted microsurgery (EAM). Our experience has demonstrated that it is time to progress from EAM to a fully endoscopic technique also in the lateral skull base surgery and oto neurosurgeons can perfect their technique and become proficient with fully endoscopic lesions resection within the lateral skull base.

With a population of approximately 300,000 inhabitants, Verona is the city of “Juliet and Romeo” and of the “Arena”, the most famous worldwide lyric appointment. Verona is also known as a treasuretrove of delectable foods and outstanding wines famous all over the world. Half September is the most pleasant month of the year in Verona, and I am certain that participants of the meeting will enjoy also a comfortable stay there.
