In 2007 the World Health Organization established the International Day March 3 Hearing.
On this day is to raise awareness and encourage community activities for the health of the ears and hearing. WHO aims to provide technical support to Member States to develop and implement national plans for care of ears and hearing through systems of primary health care.
Globally, hearing loss is the most prevalent sensory impairment. Worldwide, over 275 million people are deaf or who have hearing impairment.

Estas son las causas principales de pérdida de audición: These are the main causes of hearing loss:

· infecciones crónicas del oído; • chronic ear infections;

· enfermedades prevenibles mediante la vacunación, como la rubéola, el sarampión, la parotiditis y la meningitis; • preventable through vaccination, such as rubella, measles, mumps and meningitis diseases;

· peso bajo al nacer, ictericia del recién nacido y falta de oxígeno de la criatura durante el parto; • low birth weight newborn jaundice and lack of oxygen to the baby during delivery;

· ruidos excesivos; • excessive noise;

· medicamentos, como la gentamicina y la estreptomicina; • drugs such as gentamicin and streptomycin;

· el envejecimiento. • aging.

La pérdida de audición puede prevenirse en gran parte con medidas de salud pública como la vacunación, el mejoramiento de la salud de la madre y el niño, y las prácticas seguras en materia de higiene del trabajo.

Hearing loss can be prevented largely through public health measures such as vaccination, improving the health of mother and child, and safe practices in occupational health.

As president of the congress, it is my honor to welcome you to the 2015 International Congress of Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery in conjunction with the 89th Annual Congress of Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery/ the 2015 Spring Meeting of Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngologic Clinicians(2015 KORL-HNS). In the medical environment rapidly changing, our ENT society has developed across one hundred years of tradition. As much as our society history, your relentless efforts in the symposium have played a major role in the development of Otolaryngology in Korea. We also supplied a model for other academic societies thanks to our various members related with treatments such as nurses, audiologists, and speech therapist, along with the exemplary society management. Specifically, the symposium has had a key part in training specialists of individual fields and enhancing the research capability by providing the members of subdivided sections in the society. As a result, increasing members are reporting their papers to many international conferences and symposiums. In comparison with the past, the number of SCI article issue at international level is significantly increasing. For this symposium, we made many changes in the programs. Subdivisions of the field considered various demands for information such as basic researches and translational researches for professionals and a variety of clinical cases for specialists and practitioners will be provided as well as expansion of English session being concerned about internationalization. It will be a festival of communication for all the members of our society as well as the exchanges of academic research.

30th Politzer Society Meeting - 1st World Congress of Otology

June 30 to July 4, 2015 Niigata, Japan psm30@c-linkage.co.jp

On behalf of the local organizing committee, it is both an honor and a pleasure to announce the convening of the 30th Politzer Society Meeting in Niigata, Japan, from June 30 to July 4, 2015. The 1st World Congress of Otology is also slated to be held at the same time. Our primary objective for the meeting is to bring together up-and-coming researchers to present and actively discuss up-to-date research results from the fields of otology and neurotology. Nothing would bring me more pleasure than to see the new insights obtained at this meeting applied clinically and to future research. With a population of approximately 800,000, Niigata City is the largest city on the Sea of Japan side. Directly facing the Sea of Japan, it is calm and beautiful city, through which the longest river in Japan (the Shinano River) runs. Niigata is also known as a treasure trove of delectable foods ranging from fresh seafood to delicious, high-grade rice and Japanese sake (rice wine). Early July is the most pleasant month of the year in Niigata, and I am certain that participants of the meeting will enjoy a comfortable stay there. The local organizing committee is committed to make this meeting a memorable one for all participants. We truly hope that as many of the members of the Politzer Society as possible will be able to join us in Niigata in 2015.
